About My Art

Several years ago I purchased a basic leather tooling kit from Tandy Leather. I attended a couple of their weekend workshops but didn’t have time to keep up with the classes. 

I spent some spare time here and there digging into that leather kit and made a few items.

My first median is sculpture and I attended the Haliburton School of Arts in Ontario and the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in Georgia, US studying soapstone sculpture. I have been showing and selling my sculptures throughout Canada and the US for 14 years.

 In the fall of 2018 I retired after 30 years of serving as a police officer; I then had more time to develop my leather craft skills and continue with soapstone sculpture.

In March 2019 my father, a graphic artist, designed my CARVERGIRL LEATHER CO logo and I launched my brand.

I love the classic western floral leather work, but I am also a huge fan of traditional tattoo and pop art designs, so I started to incorporate more tattoo and pop art designs in my leather craft work.

For me, it’s about utilitarian, wearable leather art. I am always looking at an item that we use and enjoy every day and then designing a leather patch for it. 

I design, hand cut, carve, dye and sew every part of my items. I source my materials from all over the world and only use the best leather available. All my patched and carved leather bags, belts and dog collars are made from Eco Tanned leather.

You can be certain that your one of a kind leather item will be your statement piece for many years and in fact, the more you wear and use it, the better it will look. Well-made leather pieces are meant to last a lifetime.
